【中学生の英検対策はオンライン家庭教師がおすすめ】中１で英検３級に合格した生徒がいた件

小学校でも授業で英語に触れる機会があったかもしれませんが、中学になると主要科目の１つとして英語の授業が本格的に始まりますよね。

中学では、学校の定期テスト以外に英検を受ける人も小学校と比べて増えるでしょう。

「学校で対策をしてもらえる」という人はいいのですが、そのような手厚いサポートがないと

中学生が英検を受ける必要はあるのか

どんな風に英検対策をすればいいのか

不安に思うのではないでしょうか。

この記事ではTOEIC900点と英検準1級に合格し、オンライン家庭教師として中高生の英語を3年担当しているわたしが、中学生で英検を受けるメリットとその対策法について紹介します。

この記事を読めば、中学生活で英語を得意科目にして、高校入試でも成功する方法を知ることができるでしょう！

1. 英検について

中学生が英検を受けるメリットについて説明する前に、英検について確認しておきましょう。

レベル・受験日・受験料・合格率の４つの基本事項を紹介します。

英検のレベル

「英検」って聞いたことあるけど

何級から受けるのがいいんだろう？

そんな悩みを抱えている人もいるのではないでしょうか。私自身、中学生のころに同じ悩みを抱えていました。

まずは、英検のレベルと対象学年を見てみましょう。

英検の公式サイトによると以下のようになっています。

1次試験は長文や文法などの筆記とリスニングテストです。

3級以上は2次試験（面接）があります。

1級 大学上級程度
準1級 大学中級程度
2級 高校卒業程度
準2級 高校中級程度
3級 中学卒業程度（中3終了レベル）
4級 中学中級程度（中2終了レベル）
5級  中学初級程度（中1終了レベル）

中学生は3級から5級が目安となっています。

英検の受験日

英検は１年間に３回（1月・6月・9月）受験できます。

学校で一斉に受験する人もいるかもしれませんが、そうでない場合も全国都道府県に会場があり、受験申し込み時に自分の住所に近い場所を指定することが可能です。

英検の受験料

英検の2級〜５級は、本会場と学校や塾で受ける時の準会場で受験料で異なります。

以下の表のかっこ内は、準会場の受験料です。

1級 8,400円
準1級 6,900円
2級 5,800円（5,400円）
準2級 5,200円（4,800円）
3級 3,800円（3,400円）
4級 2,600円（2,100円）
5級 2,500円（2,000円）

英検の合格率

中学生が目指したい級では、5級(約80%)、4級(約70%)、3級(約55%）、準2級(約35%）となっています。

準2級からは合格率が50%を下回り、特にむずかしいことがわかりますね。

合格率からわかるとおり、中学生の場合３級までなら十分合格することも可能です。

2. 中学生が英検を受験する３つのメリット

英検についてわかったところで、

なぜ中学生が英検を受けるべきなのか

その理由を３つ紹介します。

  1. 得意な科目が１つあると高校入試で強い
  2. 高校入試で優遇される
  3. 英検は英語資格の中でも受験しやすい

得意な科目があると高校入試でも強い

高校入試では、公立は5教科、私立は3教科が一般的ですが、どちらも「英語・数学・国語」は外せません。

この３科目の中で最も小学校からの巻き返しが効くのが「英語」です。

国語は入試当日に出題される文章の中身によって影響を受けやすい科目ですし、数学は計算スピードの速さや正確さという部分では小学校のうちに訓練した生徒とはやはり差ができたまま、中学のスタートを迎えます。

「英語」は中学受験科目にほとんどの学校で含まれていないので、中学受験を経験した生徒とも同じスタートラインから始められるのが「英語」なのです。

この「英語」を早めに得意科目にしておくことで、安心して他の科目に集中できるのは、高校入試ではとても有利になります。

高校や大学で優遇される

「英検を使った優遇制度」というものが存在します。

・入試の英語科目の免除

・英語科目の単位認定

・入学金や授業料の免除

などが挙げられます。これらは各高校や大学で設定されており、英検の公式ページで優遇の一覧が公開されています。高校では全国の1,285校で英検の取得級に応じた優遇が実施されています。

これらの優遇制度は、勉強の負担だけでなく、経済的なメリットもあるので高校の志望校を選ぶ時も「英検優遇校」は要チェックです！

英検は公的な英語資格の中でも受験しやすい

中学の間はまだむずかしくても

高校生になったら海外留学をしてみたい！

子供に国際感覚を身につけてほしい

と考えている人もいますよね。そんなチャンスをつかむためにも英検は役に立ちます。

アメリカには400校、オーストラリアとカナダにも30校以上の英検認定校があります。

中学から大学、専門学校まで幅広い教育機関で、英検が英語力の証明になります。

留学に必要な英語の試験として、TOEFL（トーフル）、IELTS（アイエルツ）という英語の試験もありますが、これらはそれぞれ受験料が27,000円($230)と25,380円で高額です。

一方英検は、３級では3,800円で１級でも8,400円と比較的受験料がリーズナブルなので、公的な英語資格の中でも受験しやすいといえるでしょう。

3. 中1で英検3級に合格する方法

中1で英検３級に合格する方法の中でも、住んでいる場所や通っている学校に影響を受けずに目指せる方法が、オンライン家庭教師を活用した例です。

ここでは、オンライン家庭教師で私が担当した生徒さんが、中学から英語を本格的に学び始めて、中１の１月で英検３級に合格した話を紹介します。

埼玉県・女子中学１年生・Mさん・部活は美術部（週１回）

「中学１年生の１月か中学２年生の６月に英検３級合格を目指す」

という目標を立てて、中学１年生の４月から学校の定期テスト対策と英検対策を毎週90分行ってきました。英検対策の授業では単語帳から小テストを出題し、学校でまだ習っていない文法もしっかりスケジュールを組んで取り組みました。

どんなスケジュールで何を勉強したのかはこちら

オンライン家庭教師受講開始
英検５級の単語帳を夏休み前までに終える目標を立てる

定期テスト
初めての定期テストでは学校の勉強に集中してもらう

英検５級の過去問を１度一緒に解いてみる→英検５級は大丈夫そう

定期テスト終了と夏休み
英検４級の単語帳と学校ではまだ習っていない文法を学習する計画を立てる
8月
夏期講習
週に4コマ(1コマ45分)英語の夏期講習で、英検４級対策をした。英検４級の過去問を解いてみる→英検4級も合格点はギリギリ大丈夫そう。

ここで中だるみが心配されたので、実際にカナダに留学中の先生にも2コマ、私が2コマを担当

定期テスト優先で、英検３級の単語帳を終わらせる

英検３級の過去問を繰り返す

３級は少しギリギリで４級は余裕をもって合格
