高校生でTOEICって目指せるの？

なんで英語の勉強しておいたほうがいいの？

そんな疑問を抱いている高校生も多いのではないでしょうか。

普段、オンライン家庭教師として、高校生の生徒さんに英語を教えています。

その中で、もっと高校生に英語を勉強するメリットを知ってもらいたいなと思っています。

わたしは今、大学生ですが、高校生の頃に英語の勉強をがんばって、高校３年生の夏休み前に受けたTOEICで990満点中700点（リスニング&リーディング）を取ることができました。

この記事を読んでいるあなたには、高校生が英語の勉強をやるべき理由とTOEICも目指せる勉強方法を知って、大学進学やこれからの人生で有利に進んでいってほしいです。

1. 高校生の英語力

まずは、日本全国の高校生の英語力について見てみましょう。

文部科学省平成29年度「英語教育実施状況」（概要）

文部科学省の調べによると、高校3年次に英検準2級以上の英語力を持っている高校生は全体の約40％になります。

高校生の5人の内2人は、英検準2級以上の英語力を持っていることになりますね。

高校生の英語力は、年々上昇しており、5年前と比べると10%も英検準2級以上の英語力を持つ生徒が増えています。

2. 高校生が英語の勉強しておいたほうがいい2つの理由

全国の高校生の英語力はだいたいわかったけど、

何で英語を勉強したほうがいいのか

やっぱりピンとこないという人も多いと思うので、「進路選びで有利・留学に挑戦できる」という2つの理由にしぼって紹介します。

1. 大学進学や進路選びで有利

どんな優遇制度があるのか、一般入試の試験に加点されたり、AO入試で加点されるなど、それぞれの大学によって仕組みはちがいます。

しかし、英語に関係する学部だけでなく、工学部や経営学部など幅広い分野で優遇制度があります。

なお

わたしは受験で私立と国立の両方で英語の試験を免除もしくは加点してもらえました。

早慶や同志社、立命館など私立TOP校の推薦入試でも英語力は評価されます。

入試科目の「英語」の成績を上げるだけでなく、英語力があれば、色々な方法で進学時に有利になるので、高校生は英語を勉強しておくべきなのです。

2. 留学や色んなチャンスに挑戦できる

高校生向けの国際交流プログラムや短期留学は、色々充実しています。

3. 高校生が英語の勉強をする2つの方法

1. 学校の勉強で基礎力をつける

まずは、学校の英語の勉強をしっかり行いましょう！

英語の資格試験の勉強をしていくときに、学校で勉強したはずの基礎力がなくて、毎回勉強し直していると時間がかかって成績も上がりにくいです。

学校の英語の先生がわかりにくい

という場合でも、スマホアプリでゲーム形式で楽しく勉強できる方法もあります！

2. 英語の資格試験を目指す

学校の勉強で英語の基礎力をつけながら資格試験を目指しましょう。

この表は、英検とTOEICの対応表です。

実際にわたしも両方受けてみて、英検準１級まではこの表が一番体感と合っています。

高校卒業までに、英検2級もしくは準1級を目指すことをおすすめします。

TOEICはビジネス英語なので少し覚える必要がある単語がありますが、英検2級に合格した後なら十分挑戦できると思います。

わたしは

英検準2級→英検2級→TOEIC→英検準1級

の順番で勉強しました。
